| 12/13/98 I guess it's about time to update the site a little bit. A lot has happened since the last time I wrote anything. Where do I start? Well, when we last left you in July, we were right about to do an art show featuring drawings that Summer had done for me at Reds coffeehouse here in San Diego. It went remarkably well. Instead of doing tasteful, framed pieces arranged in perfect symmetry, we covered the walls with enlarged copies of her work and also put up tons of posters of her favorite bands to give it a teen-girl bedroom feel. We also used black tape to show the outline of a huge refrigerator, complete with letter magnets and put artwork on that. Lots of help from really great people made it a really great show. It was great to see so many people see some of my favorite drawings she's ever done. We had a low key opening and then spent the rest of the month showing some of her favorite movies and having some friends and strangers come and perform. Channel 10 News did a really nice piece on the show and Jason Falkner and Splendid both got to go on the now defunct 92.5 FM, play and plug the show. Just about every musical performance was packed and the music was phenomenal. Thanks to everyone who played and showed up. We printed up shirts with Summer's drawings on it which practically sold out (so don't ask) and we're still figuring out how we're going to distribute the mugs that we did. Keep checking the site, someday it'll come together. I've been keeping busy with lots of projects, including a charity/tribute record called Songs For Summer which is scheduled to be released in February 2000. This is not going to be a low-key affair. Big name artists, good friends, distribution, press, the whole sh-bang. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit Free Arts For Abused Children, an LA based charity that brings art, music and dance into the lives of abused kids. I don't want to say who's agreed to being on it because with all of the red tape, you never know. For some hints, check out Summer's favorites page and know that all 16 artists that are going to be on the record are listed there. It's been hard because a lot of really nice people have offered to be on it but I'm trying to make this record have her absolute favorites, which isn't easy because she loved so much music. Reading the great notes people keep leaving in the guestbook has been a nice reminder that Summer would've loved all of the things we're trying to do. You don't even have to have met her to know that. I read every single one so thank you very much. Talk to ya soon, Adam >> see previous updates >> |
